1912 Kimono Dress Pattern

This is the pattern that won the 2004 Young Designers’ Contest. Miss Amanda Kastner designed her winning entry based upon fashion plates from 1911 and 1912, creating a kimono-style bodice with an optional inset (see her original drawing below, along with photos of sample dresses). The overskirt can be made in a coordinating or contrasting color. This pattern is very easy to make and so comfortable to wear!

* Sizes 6-26 all included, with instructions for “D” and “DD” sizing.
* Instructions included for nursing mothers to make a nursing dress!
* Easy style to dress up or down with fancy or everyday fabrics.
* Yardage Chart available online.
* Online Photo Instructions coming soon!

This pattern is rated “intermediate” because of the bodice inset, but a beginner should have little trouble creating a beautiful dress with limited help.

Packaged in a printed envelope with illustrated instructions, the pattern is US$15.95, plus shipping.

1914 Afternoon Dress Pattern

This is my 1914 Afternoon Dress, which was inspired by an original design in a 1914 home economics textbook. (For more photos of this dress, click HERE.)

* Sizes 6-26 “DD” all included in one envelope.
* Several sleeve styles included (set-in or puffed; wrist- or elbow-length; cuffs or plain).
* Pattern includes instructions for lace insertion, and appendix includes traceable embroidery designs.
* You can also use the pattern to create a simple shift-style underdress. All instructions included!
* Special bodice option just for nursing moms with a secret front nursing panel.
* Online Photo Instructions available!
* Yardage Chart available online.
* Feeling intimidated? I do offer an online class if you’d like step-by-step instructions and help for creating your own gown!

Important Note: Because this pattern was drafted from an original 1914 design, it is created to be worn over a corseted form. If you do not wear a corset with the dress, I recommend cutting your bodice two sizes larger than what your bustline measurement calls for; that will give you the needed modern “ease” to wear the dress comfortably without a corset!

Complete with illustrated instructions and packaged in a printed envelope, the pattern is US$15.95, plus shipping.

Girls’ 1914 Dress Pattern

This is the companion pattern for my women’s 1914 Afternoon Dress. (Click on the image at left for a larger version of the pattern cover.)

* Sizes 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 8 & 10 all included in one envelope.
* Options for short, puffed sleeves and cap sleeves (short or long) included.
* Pattern includes instructions for lace insertion, and appendix includes traceable embroidery designs.
* You can also use the pattern to create a simple shift-style underdress. All instructions included!
* Appendix shows earlier designs for girls, so you can see how easy it is to make this pattern work for the early to mid-Edwardian Era.
* Online Photo Instructions in the works!
* Yardage Chart also available online.

The photographs below show models wearing a dress made from this pattern. As you can see, the bodice is poufed (gathered) in the front, and the skirt gathers all the way around. The optional waistline sash can be made from cotton, velvet, silk, or wide ribbon. This pattern is rated “intermediate” because of the heirloom techniques included (French seams; lace insertion). However, making a simple day dress is not beyond the skill of a beginner!

Packaged in a printed envelope, the pattern is US$12.95, plus shipping. Alabama residents must add 8% state sales tax of $.96 to the $12.95 (Paypal adds this automatically for you at checkout if you’re in AL).
