Customer Comments

"I ordered your Regency pattern last Spring to make my daughter's Prom dress and sent an appeal for help in making a split overskirt. Well, it's taken me MONTHS to send pictures, but the dress itself only took a few days! I've only been sewing for a little over a year, and even for me, the pattern was so easy - I kept waiting for the hard part. With antique-looking jewelry and an elaborate hairstyle (she studied photos from "Pride and Prejudice" for inspiration and did her hair herself), she looked amazing. She was sooooo happy the next day - said she was the only girl there who wasn't wearing a typical Prom dress, and EVERYONE came up to her and said she looked incredible. Oh, and when she posted the pictures online, one of her friends said I was her idol! Yeay! Anyway, thanks for the fabulous pattern, and I would recommend it to anyone!" ~ Nancy H.

"I have just completed my gown with your pattern (with exception of handsewing on the buttons) I wish to tell you how pleased I am with the result. I normally draft up patterns from a book (such as Patterns of Fashion or Corsets & Crinolines). or combine pattern pieces for a custom pattern. I know you must of heard this a thousand and one times, but the pattern went together with incredible ease, I had not a single headache, and I am more than proud to don the final result. The next time I am asked about regency clothing, I will with zero hesitation recommend your pattern. I plan to use it again and again, and to sum it up: I just wanted to say thank you." ~ Victoria A.

I am very excited to tell everyone about your wonderful Regency Gown pattern! I can not recommend it enough. I have after many years in reenacting not a single dress that fits everywhere perfectly; usually the shoulders or the back gave me some difficulties, but this is wonderful. The instructions and illustrations are great, and the whole thing goes together so nicely. I am heading off to make my second one. ~ Suzanne in Ohio

Wow! the regency dress pattern was everything everyone had said about it! It went together beautifully, with little aggravation (even though I am not the greatest seamstress in the world) and the fit was wonderful--especially the supplemental DD bodice. My friend loves her dress! Anyway, just wanted to say how pleased I am with the pattern. Thanks again for designing a great dress pattern! ~ Sue A.

Regency Gown Neckline Supplement

Ready to expand your Regency wardrobe? This new supplement is the ticket! Designed for use with the Regency Gown Pattern above, the supplement provides options for necklines that will give you four new looks. Please note that this supplement was created from the most recent version of the Regency Gown Pattern (2005) and will not line up exactly with pieces from the older version of the pattern. Please feel free to contact me if you have the original Regency Gown and would like a PDF file containing the updated pieces! (Click on the image at right to see a larger version of the supplement options.)

The photographs below show four bodice mock-ups made with the new supplement. You have the ability to create high, plain or high, gathered necklines as well as gently sloping necklines (smooth or gathered). I've also included instructions for creating a period-correct drawstring closure for either of the gathered bodices.

This supplement is US$3.50, plus shipping. Alabama residents must add 8% state sales tax of $.28 to the $3.50 (Paypal adds this automatically for you at checkout if you're in AL). Please click here if you wish to pay by cheque or money order. To purchase the pattern with your debit/credit card or e-check through Paypal's secure server, click on the button. (We can process international orders through Paypal. You will be prompted for your region during checkout.)

The Elegant Lady's Closet

Here is a pattern with something for everyone! I took some designs I'd played around with years ago and turned them into a "mega pattern." All of the pieces are totally correct for the time period and can be mixed and matched to create an entire wardrobe of gowns! You'll be able to create day gowns, half-robes, visiting gowns, and evening gowns with ease. Best of all, this pattern is ideal for expectant and nursing mothers, since the drawstring gown accommodates a tummy, and both gowns are nursing-friendly! More photos are below to give you an idea of how you can use this pattern. Important: The gowns in this pattern were designed to be worn over period underpinnings and will not fit correctly over modern undergarments. Please make sure you have your proper underpinnings before you use this pattern!

  • Sizes 6-26DD all included in one envelope.
  • Illustrated instructions make construction easy!
  • Options for long sleeves, fitted elbow-length sleeves, and short puffed sleeves, as well as two different bodice styles.
  • Bonus: Includes authentic embroidery motifs as well as bonus patterns for two "ridicules" (Regency era purses)!
  • Yardage Chart: Click HERE.

Complete with illustrated instructions and packaged in a printed envelope, the pattern is US$15, plus shipping. Alabama residents must add 8% state sales tax of $1.20 to the $15 (Paypal adds this automatically for you at checkout if you're in AL). Please click here if you wish to pay by cheque or money order. To purchase the pattern with your debit/credit card or an e-check through Paypal's secure server, click on the button. (We can process international orders through Paypal. This is the drawstring dress with short puffed sleeves.
The dress has drawstrings at the neckline and waistline and is slipped on over the head.
The waistline drawstring casing comes straight out of Janet Arnold's research and includes self-fabric loops to hold the
self-fabric drawstring up at the back of the dress between the side back seams.

This crossover gown was made of dupioni silk and features the pleated front and darted sleeve.
This gown also works for day wear when it is made up in cotton or linen and can also be cut
to hip-length to make a half-robe to wear over another gown!

Here is another version of the drawstring dress with a straight skirt front. This was accomplished by using the skirt front piece from my
Regency Gown Pattern (at top of page). You can easily mix and match pieces from these patterns to create even more gown options!

Here is a period illustration of
a lady wearing short stays over
a chemise. This transitional style appeared
in the 1790s and again in the 1820s.

Regency Underthings

Here are the underpinnings you need to give you the proper Regency foundation! This package includes patterns for a chemise, short stays, and two chemisettes. The chemise was modeled from original garments in several museum collections and features an adjustable drawstring neckline and gussets under the arms for a comfortable fit. The short stays lace in the front and were based upon extant stays in museum collections as well as period drawings of these transitional undergarments. The chemisettes were drawn from portraits of the time as well as Janet Arnold's excellent research in Patterns of Fashion I. Begin with the chemise next to the skin, then add your stays for the correct silhouette. To create a smooth line beneath your gowns, add a long petticoat over your stays, which you can easily make from the Regency Gown pattern above (omitting the sleeves). For daytime, put a chemisette over your undergarments, then don your gown. Voila'! A full Regency wardrobe!

  • Sizes 6-26D all included in one envelope.
  • Illustrated instructions make construction easy!
  • Notes on original undergarments of the time as well as tips for wearing the undergarments.
  • Yardage Chart available online.
  • Online Photo Instructions coming soon!
  • What about Simplicity's version of this pattern? How do the two compare? Click here to find out!

Below are more photographs of the undergarments made from this pattern. Some parts of the pattern are rated "intermediate," like the stays, but the chemise and chemisettes are simple enough for a beginniner. I am always available through the Feedback Form if you have questions! Do note that the short stays will not offer ample enough support for sizes "DD" and above. I would instead recommend the excellent Regency Stays pattern by The Mantua Maker, which is for longer (hip-length) stays and can be easily modified to support larger cup sizes.

Packaged in a printed envelope and including illustrated instructions, this pattern is US$15.00, plus shipping. Alabama residents must add 8% state sales tax of $1.20 to the $15 (Paypal adds this automatically for you at checkout if you're in AL). Please click here if you wish to pay by cheque or money order. Regency Spencer/Pelisse

This is my Spencer Jacket/Pelisse pattern. (Click on the cover image to see a larger version.) I created this pattern by pulling research together from several sources (along with customer requests!). I studied a Spencer jacket in the D.A.R. Museum collection and one at the Valentine. I also drew from Janet Arnold's wonderful Patterns of Fashion.

  • Sizes 6-26DD all included in one envelope.
  • Illustrated instructions make construction easy!
  • Options for double-breasted or "frog" closure and two different collar treatments.
  • Also makes up as a sleeveless pelisse or long coat with a skirt!
  • Online Photo Instructions available!
  • Yardage Chart also available online.

There are photographs below of models wearing jackets and pelisses made from this pattern. To see more examples, go to my "Samples" page. The pattern is rated "intermediate," but I have had beginners use it successfully with a minimum of help. And I am always available through the Feedback Form if you have questions!

The pattern is US$12.00, plus shipping. Alabama residents must add 8% state sales tax of $.96 to the $12 (Paypal adds this automatically for you at checkout if you're in AL). "I made up a spencer for my sister over the weekend (I'm almost finished with it--just need to hem the bottom and add the closure), and wanted to let you know how much I love that pattern! It's really simple and quick, and has so many possibilities! My sister is really pleased with it too, and it fits her very well! We're planning on making matching spencers or pelisses in the future. :)" ~ Casey B. in Virginia

Girls' Regency Dress Pattern

This is my Girls' Regency Dress pattern--a companion to my women's pattern above. (Click on the image at right to see larger version of the pattern cover.)

  • Sizes 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 8 & 10 all included in one envelope.
  • Illustrated instructions make construction easy!
  • Options for long sleeves, short sleeves, and undersleeves.
  • Online Photo Instructions available!
  • Yardage Chart also available online.

The photographs below show models wearing dresses made from this pattern. As you can see, the bodice is straight (not gathered) across the front, and the skirt gathers all the way around (though you can create it with gathers across the back only if you prefer). The bodice back has the period correct dropped shoulder seams and curved side back seams. A wide ribbon around the waist gives the dress a darling "Kate Greenaway" look. The pattern is rated "intermediate" because of the lining and understitching, but it is actually easier to put together than the women's pattern. I think a beginner would have little trouble, and I am always available through the Feedback Form if you have questions!

Packaged in a printed envelope, the pattern is US$12.00, plus shipping. Alabama residents must add 8% state sales tax of $.96 to the $12 (Paypal adds this automatically for you at checkout if you're in AL). Please click here if you wish to pay by cheque or money order. "Just wanted to let you know a friend finished the Regency Dress for my daughter. She found your pattern easy to work with and finished the dress in two days. Thanks again for a wonderful and easy pattern." ~ Sincerely, Kathleen S.

Girls' Spencer/Pelisse Pattern

Here is the Girls' Spencer Jacket/Pelisse pattern--a companion to my women's pattern above. (Click on the image at right to see a larger version of the pattern cover.)

  • Sizes 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 8 & 10 all included in one envelope.
  • Illustrated instructions make construction easy!
  • Options for double-breasted and non-overlapping front closure; notched collar or no collar; full jacket/coat or sleeveless, vest-style pelisse.
  • Online Photo Instructions available!
  • Yardage Chart also available online.

Below are photographs of models in a jacket and a coat made from this pattern. For the coat, I made the double-breasted jacket with notched collar, then added a skirt that is straight in the front and pleated across the back. The bodice back has the period correct dropped shoulder seams and curved side back seams. Sleeves are also correct for the time period with the seam toward the back of the jacket and the gathers beginning below the shoulder in back. The pattern is rated "intermediate" because of the lining and collar, but I think it actually goes together faster than the dress pattern and is not at all difficult to understand after a trial run in muslin. An advanced beginner would have little trouble, and I am always available through the Feedback Form if you have questions!

Packaged in a printed envelope, the pattern is US$12.00, plus shipping. Alabama residents must add 8% state sales tax of $.96 to the $12 (Paypal adds this automatically for you at checkout if you're in AL). Please click here if you wish to pay by cheque or money order. Girls' Pinafore/Pantaloons Pattern

This is the Girls' Pinafore pattern with bonus Pantaloon pattern on the same sheet. (Click on the image at left for a larger version of the pattern cover.) I created this pattern to work within several different eras and be versatile enough for play and dress-up!

  • Sizes 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 8 & 10 all included in one envelope.
  • Illustrated instructions make construction easy!
  • Options for plain and fancy pinafores.
  • Bonus pattern included for long pantaloons!
  • Online Photo Instructions available!
  • Yardage Chart also available online.
  • Click HERE for inseam measurements (which aren't on the older charts).

Below are photographs of three versions of the pinafore. One was created from cream-colored voile with French seams, ruffles, and tucks. Another was made of cotton and eyelet. Below those pictures, you see photos of the "play" version of the pinafore, which omits the "fancies" to create a sturdy everyday apron. This pinafore will work over the girls' Regency Dress pattern, but it is also appropriate for the Romantic Era and the late Victorian-early Edwardian eras. The plain pinafore is rated "easy," because a beginner could put it together with no trouble. The heirloom pinafore requires some more advanced sewing techniques (French seams, tucks, etc.), but it is still more "intermediate" than "advanced." You can also see the pantaloons peeking out from beneath the bottom of two dresses below. These are quick and easy to make and can also be created in "plain" and "fancy" versions!

Packaged in a printed envelope, the pattern is US$12.00, plus shipping. Alabama residents must add 8% state sales tax of $.96 to the $12 (Paypal adds this automatically for you at checkout if you're in AL). Please click here if you wish to pay by cheque or money order. "What a fun pattern to use! I've already made several play pinnies for my girls, and now I'm working on heirloom versions with lace insertion and tucks for Easter. This pattern works beautifully with any number of dresses they already have! Thanks!" ~ Carol C.

"Your pantaloons pattern is my new favorite. These are so easy to make. They go together so fast, and my girls love them. They climb trees in their muslin ones and wear the eyelet ones to church!" ~ Josie F.
