Stunning Silk Regency Ballgown with Lace Overdress

I sent a question back during the fall while I was sewing my daughter’s Regency down with removable overlay (she wanted two dresses in one). You asked me to send pictures and, like most homeschool moms, it waited until summer! This is from the Simplicity pattern in silk with a removable lace overlay. We love the pattern but love the pictures (as I’m very visual) online for cutting out and sewing even more. We’ll be making another dress without the overlay for my second daughter for the Christmas formal.

This is a jaw-dropper, isn’t it? I simply love the beautiful aqua blue (believe it or not, it’s correct for the time period), and the removable lace overdress is just the crowning touch. Absolutely gorgeous! Thanks so much for sharing your hard work, Alison!

I wanted to share some photos of a couple of the Regency dresses I’d made from your patterns for my girls. They get no end of compliments on them, thanks in large part to your excellent instructions. I’m a rather inexperienced seamstress, but having started on these patterns has given me the confidence to try more complicated items, so thank you!

Aren’t these adorable? I just love Regency fashions for girls, and these are so cute!

I wanted to send you pictures of the completed Beatrix Potter Outfit. It was very easy to make with your online help. Did not get the shoulders quite right, but we were very excited about how pretty she looked in it. Fun pattern to sew! ~ Lisa W.

I absolutely love this outfit! I’ve never tried sizing the “Beatrix” patterns down for a child, but Lisa did a fantastic job and made it work. Thanks so much for sharing!

Hello,

I would love to share some of my creations from your patterns in the show and tell. :) I have been posting some of mine on the “Fan Photos” on your Facebook page.

I am a new sewer and have just fallen in love with sewing from your patterns! I have two daughters (5 and 3 years old), and it has been so fun to make such feminine and modest clothes for them. It has been a joy to use your patterns! I have been sewing up a storm with them and love the ease of the e-pattern where I can store it on my computer!! I decided to make a Regency wrap-dress from the Elegant Lady’s Closet, and it has become one of my favourites!! I made the back skirt a bit longer and added some dark purple ribbon around the neckline and arms. The dress is so comfy that I wear it often!!

I made the Girls Regency Dress for my oldest daughter (age 5) and her doll. I opened the front of the dress to show the lining underneath. I am a beginning sewer (only sewing for 3 months!!) and have LOVED learning through your patterns. You make it easy to understand and follow and allow a beginner like me to get creative as well! My daughter loves to wear this dress and match her doll! :) Thank you for your WONDERFUL patterns!

With kind thoughts,
Emily B.

I absolutely love to hear from beginners who are enjoying sewing success! These outfits are absolutely wonderful. You’d never guess Emily’s a beginner, would you? Fantastic!

Hello Mrs.Chancey,

Back in September I had a Regency themed party and all the guests dressed up together. It was a lot of fun! The original Regency dress pattern was used on all of them. I also made a pelisse by changing the same pattern and using the sleeves from the Elegant Lady’s Closet pattern. My dress is voile and the rest are quilter’s cottons.

Enjoy!

Blessings,
Bethany

What wonderful fun, Bethany! I love costume-themed parties, and this looks like it was a blast!

A few months ago I ordered some of you patterns and made a set for my niece for Christmas! I finally got the pictures! So first of all thank you so much! I am making an Etsy listing and was wondering if it would be possible for me to post pictures of your other patterns so that people can see what other kind of sets I can make. Let me know if that would be possible and thank you so much for your wonderful patterns!!!

Pauline

Isn’t this too adorable? I love the matching doll’s outfit–down to the last detail of lace trimming. Wonderful work! As always, I do not charge a licensing fee for people to produce garments for sale from my patterns, so you are free to sell your creations on Etsy, eBay, and more. I do appreciate the kindness of a link back or a credit to the pattern source. It’s fun to see people create beautiful items from my patterns!

Our son just got married, and the bridesmaids dresses were from your 1914 Afternoon Dress pattern.

Thanks!
Marci B.

I am a real sucker for blue and white. My own wedding was blue and white, and I adore hydrangeas! Note the embroidery on the bodices, too. The dresses are sheer over white petticoats (also made from the pattern), and the flower girls have blue petticoats. Darling!

Here are pictures of my first creation with your patterns. My 7-month-old daughter’s Regency Gown turned out soooo cute. Thanks for the patterns. I am having a blast. ~ Kim E.

What a cherubic little angel! I love this beautiful winter Regency dress. Fantastic work, Kim!

Anna’s Regency Dresses & Blouse

Tuesday, February 10th, 2009

Hold on to your hats! Anna of Pleasant View Schoolhouse is a prolific, gifted seamstress who creates some of the most beautiful outfits I’ve ever seen. I am thrilled and honored that she uses my patterns, and she has shared pictures of several projects, so prepare to drool! (Stunning photography by Anna’s son Giles!)

“Bella’s fabric arrived in the mail–a cotton sateen with a little stretch. It has a much sturdier, less drapey hand than Clara’s cotton and rayon blend, which makes the dress hang differently. More castle, less cottage.”

“I made a spring dress for Clara from Sense and Sensibility’s Regency pattern. An excellent value pattern as the sizing runs from Clara’s slight measurements up to a very generous 22 or so. She chose the short sleeves, and picked out this soft cotton-rayon blend plaid from the stash. I remembered to match my plaid lines, and to make a muslin to fit the bodice. My work on the muslin paid off in spades: after pinching various gaping issues out, enlarging the armscye, and raising the front neckline, we had a perfect fit.”

“Daisy’s turn for a Regency-style dress for Easter! This is a separate pattern from the ladies’ and big girls’ pattern, and it has fuller sleeves. And because Daisy loves bunnies so much right now, I embroidered a bunny on the front at the hem. The transfer is from the delightful Pattern Bee.”

“Clara suggested a blouse from the Regency dress pattern. I had just enough of this beloved vintage polka-dot fabric to do it, if I pieced the back. Goodies from the stash–vintage navy blue velvet ribbon and unbelievable buttons in sort of a polka dot miniature.”

I think Anna gets a standing ovation for her fabulous work, don’t you? And kudos to Giles for the beautifully lit, ultra-clear photos!
