To this union eight children were born, four of whom preceded him to the unknown beyond. In 1869, Mr Ethel, with his family came west, locating in Gentry county, Mo. In 1873, he purchased a farm about four miles north of King City, Mo., on which he built a house and moved his family to this new home where he tilled the soil, reared his family and continued to reside to the end of his earthly days.
Mr Ethel became a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows at Exeter, Ill., when quite a young man. When he permanently settled on the farm, he transferred his membership and became a charter member of the King City lodge of that order, and continued an active member until advancing years bade him cease.
In January, 1911, a great sorrow came into his life in the passing away of his beloved wife. Since that time he has lived at the old home, though his daughter, Mrs. Carrie Blacklock, desired him to come and make his home with her. He preferred to stay in the home that had sheltered him through all the vigorous years of his life spent in Missouri. Mr Ethel was an industrious man. He did not waste his days in idleness. He was honest and trustworthy, a man of strong upright character, a helpful neighbor and a genial friend, a good father and a devoted husband.
He leaves surviving him two sons, Albert K. of Eagle, Colo.; George P. of Bisbee, Ariz.; two daughters, Mrs Kitty Heyers of Gypsum, Colo., and Mrs Eben Blacklock of King City, Mo., besides nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; other relatives and a large number of friends. He will be sadly missed by all.
